Johnson on target

Jamaica's Jermaine Johnson.

Reggae Boy Jermaine Johnson featured among the scorers as the new English League One season kicked off yesterday.

Johnson got on the scoresheet for Sheffield Wednesday as they squandered a two-goal lead to share the points with Barnsley in the South Yorkshire derby at Hillsborough Stadium.

Johnson opened the scoring for Wednesday after just nine minutes when he found himself unmarked at the far post to knock home Michael Gray's searching cross from the right side.

Gray then headed home Marcus Tudgay's flick seven minutes from half-time as Wednesday took control of the game.

But Sheffield eased up the pressure in the second half and 19-year-old Jacob Butterfield pulled one back for Barnsley in the 59th minute before Ireland international Jon Macken found the equaliser in the 75th.

Sensational start

Former Jamaican international Kevin Lisbie made a sensational start to the season when he lashed a brace for Colchester to help them crush Norwich 7-1.

The 30-year-old striker, on loan at the east England club from Championship outfit Ipswich town, scored both his goals in the first half to hand the visitors an imposing 5-0 advantage at half-time.

He was helped by Clive Platt who also scored twice in the first half as Norwich's bid to return to the Championship following relegation last season, started disastrously.

Playing at Carrow Road, Lisbie set Colchester on their way in the 10th minute when he finished from close range after goalkeeper Michael Theoklitos failed to clear.

Platt then pumped in his double to send Norwich 3-0 up after 19 minutes before David Fox's free kick three minutes later further strengthened Colchester's position.
