After many weeks of intense competition top national player Gareth Henry and Christine Mayne topped the Racketeers Badminton Tournament Awards ceremony staged at Redbones the Blues Café on Tuesday.
Henry and Shanakay Bailey took top honours in the mixed doubles in Division A defeating Mikaylia Haldane and Tossainte Taylor. The men's singles was a close battle between Henry and Kasif Bernard but in the end Henry proved too steady for Bernard who succumbed in the third set.
Too agile
In the men's doubles, Henry and Taylor proved too agile for the pair of Kingsley Ford and Jon Binns. Henry also triumphed in the open division to take the triple crown award.
In Division B, Mayne teamed with Binns to defeat Shanakay Bailey and Anthony McNee in mixed doubles action. In the ladies doubles, Mayne and Amande Low defeated Javaine Henry and Bailey.
The ladies doubles in Division A was an easy sweep for Alya Lewis and Mayne over the junior pair of Haldane and Bailey.
Mayne also received the most outstanding player award following 14 years of competitive action.
Other outstanding performances also came from John Ross-Newman who teamed with Ashley Cousins in Division D to defeat Patrice Mighty and Mario Mighty. In the men's singles, Mighty defeated Ross-Newman to take the title.
Exciting tournament
Top awards also went to Gerald Isaacs, Marla Miller, Carla Grant, Che Beckford and Denise Scott.
President of the Racketeers Badminton Club, Donovan G. Brown, said it was an exciting tournament and there were few disappointments in relation to the players.
"We had a good tournament. It has been 14 years and next year, we hope to be bigger and better with the addition of international players," Brown said.
The tournament was made possible through sponsorship from title sponsors Mayberry Investments Limited, Air Jamaica, Supreme Ventures, Kendel Trading, National Bakery and Atlantic Trading.
"We are happy that we had so many sponsors and look forward to their support in the future," he said.
