Jockey Shane Ellis, who rode DESIGNED FOR LUCK in the seventh race at Caymanas Park on Saturday, July 18 was suspended for 10 racedays and fined $10,000 for his failure to preserve sufficiently with his mount throughout the race.
DESIGNED FOR LUCK finished 10th of 11 runners in the Violet Armond Memorial Cup co-feature won by QUERIDA.
The jockey's suspension takes effect on Thursday, August 6 (Independence Day).
Ellis, who was champion jockey in the year 2000, was was also severely cautioned for the interference caused to FULL OF HAIL shortly after the start in the fourth race last Saturday, this aboard the winning horse RIP CURRENT.
Disciplinary actions
Also suspended following disciplinary actions arising from inquiries at the Winchester Road offices of the Jamaica Racing Commission on Tuesday was jockey Carlton Malcolm, this for careless riding aboard MR SKILL in the 10th race for the She's On Wheels Trophy last Saturday.
Malcolm was stood down for one raceday and fined $2,000 for the interference caused to RACING MACHINE approaching the 300-metre point. His suspension takes effect on Saturday.
Jockey Jason Simpson, who rode PRIVATE TRIAL in the 10th race on Saturday, July 18, was severely cautioned for the interference caused to KOKOPELLI CAT and CONFETTI shortly after the start.
