Men on stolen vehicle charge granted $500,000 bail
Two men charged with receiving stolen motor vehicles were granted bail in the sum of $500,000 each when they appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

They are businessmen Winston Hill, 43, of St James, and Robert Whyte, 35, of Ocho Rios, St Ann.

Recovery of vehicle

The investigator told the court that on December 18 last year, a 1999 Honda motor car, valued at $700,000, was stolen in the Mount Royal Estate area of Portmore, St Catherine. Police investigations led to the recovery of the vehicle.

The court was informed that an alarm was made after the purchaser of the car discovered discrepancies, as the chassis and engine numbers were tampered with. Both men were subsequently charged.

Whyte's attorney-at-law, Keith Bishop, told the court that his client had in fact got the car from Hill, but had turned over the money to him.

After hearing the allegation, Resident Magistrate Valrie Edwards granted bail on condition that both men report to the police three times weekly.

The case is scheduled to continue in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's on August 17.
