Firearm licence holders had been finding it difficult to locate the weapon locally, even while law-enforcement personnel continue their attempts to wrest this and other types of guns from the hands of persons not legally permitted to carry them.
The irony of the situation has not been lost on those involved in the issuing of firearm licences, local distributors and licensed firearm holders.
Sasco Distributors, one of three local distributors, confirmed that the Glock is currently in demand but not readily available.
A Sasco director told The Gleaner this week that a shipment of weapons, including Glocks, would arrive in the island by August.
"I don't think we need to worry, the weapons will be released into the hands of Jamaicans in a month's time," he said.
Sasco said the Glock was also the weapon of choice in the United States, which supplies the Jamaican market.
"It's hard for us to find the guns … it's simply a matter of demand and supply, due to the high demand in the United States."
