Crown begins presenting case in Kameka murder trial

Kameka

The Crown began outlining its case yesterday afternoon at the trial of the three men charged with the murder of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Gilbert Kameka.

The trial, which should have started at 2 p.m. yesterday, was delayed because two of the 12 jurors who were selected between Monday and Tuesday said they knew the deceased's brother who was sitting in court.

An adjournment had to be granted for additional jurors to be summoned to replace them.

Senior Puisne Judge Marva McIntosh excused the two jurors.

Charged with Kameka's murder are 26-year-old Massinissa Adams, of Industry Village; 18-year-old Kemar Dawson, of Standpipe; and 21-year-old Rohan Townsend, of Irish Town, all in St Andrew.

Attorney-at-law Kathy Pyke is representing the Crown at the trial in the Home Circuit Court.

Kameka, 48, was shot dead in Irish Town on November 29, 2007, in an alleged robbery at a house.

Attorneys-at-law Michael Lorne, Leroy Equiano and Earl Delisser are representing the men who remain in custody.
