Jamaica will have to dig deep in their reserves if they are to claim first innings points from Guyana in their three-day TCL Group WICB U-19 Cup clash at Sabina Park.

Winning the toss and electing to field yesterday, Jamaica, who lost their first round game to Trinidad and Tobago, restricted their South America mainland counterparts to 160, and by the close were 67-4, still 93 runs behind.

Jamaica, in the field, were led by Moneague College's left-arm spinner Patrick Harty Jr and Kingston College's leg-spinner Akeem Dewar, who operating at different ends, claimed 4-52 and 2-2, respectively.

Opener Trevon Griffith, 38, and Toyston Alkins, 30, and Alex Amsterdam, 29, made most runs for Guyana.

But with their top batsmen batting meekly, Jamaica literally gifted their commanding position as led by left-arm 'chinaman' bowler, Totaram Bishun 3-8, Guyana fought back gallantly.

Tacky High opener John Campbell, who topscored with 70 in Jamaica's first game, made 17, while captain Paul Palmer Jr, is not out on 20.

Confident

"We are not out of it really. We still have 90-odd runs to get our first points of the tournament and I am confident that we have what it takes to get it," said Jamaica's coach, André Coley.

Guyana coach, Hurbern Evans, in the meanwhile, said he was a bit disappointed that his players did not take full advantage of a good batting surface, but said he was proud of the way his bowlers responded.

"We should have got over 300 runs. But to have Jamaica at 67-4 is a good position. The batsmen are not picking Bishun and hopefully come tomorrow we can restrict them to below our score," he added.
