'Let justice prevail'
The following is a letter from the parents of three young men who were allegedly attacked at a party in St Andrew late last month.

In the early morning hours of Saturday, June 27, 2009, our three sons were viciously attacked while attempting to pick up the youngest boy from a party at the Rib Kage Restaurant on Constant Spring Road. The young men were stabbed multiple times, chopped with machetes and left for dead in the dust of the driveway. Punctured lungs, head wounds, protruding intestines and ruptured colons ... plus severe tendon and bone damage have necessitated numerous extensive surgeries and the prospect of more in the future. At the point of this writing, July 10, one of the injured is still battling for life in the hospital.

The following day, we the parents and relatives of the victims of this vicious attack, made a formal report to the Constant Spring Police Station, however, no statement was officially recorded at that time by the police on duty. We gave the police information that had come to our attention relating to the attackers and the person who allegedly instigated the attack. We have been extremely disappointed with the slow response of the police and indeed it was not until the third visit by the parents and appeals to senior officers at the Constant Spring police station that investigative steps were finally taken.

Left the island

It is now a fact that one of the persons whose name has surfaced most prominently by witnesses at the party, and who resides in upper St Andrew, has left the island via Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. This individual is highly connected and this information has been given to the police.

We are deeply disturbed by this development as we believe that the delay to investigate has facilitated the departure of this young man from the island without him even being questioned by the police.

Evidence could be lost

We fear that while the delays continue, more valuable evidence could be lost thus making it virtually impossible for justice to be done. While we continue to pray for the full recovery of our children, we will devote all our remaining energy towards assisting the police in doing their duty, as we believe we owe this not only to our own children, but to the many children and their parents who have expressed concern. To the many parents who live with the complacent idea that their children will grow and enjoy their childhood if they don't court trouble, we say, beware. Be aware that your children might be surrounded by peers whose motive to impress could result in tragedy. We pray that no other parents find themselves in the sad and unfortunate situation that we now find ourselves in and we also pray that justice will prevail in this terrible situation.

Signed

Anguished Parents
