The University of the West Indies, through the Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC), Mona, and the International Programmes Unit, Office of Administration, is partnering with Clark Atlanta University to stage the inaugural Caribbean Culture and Media Conference. The conference, under the theme, New Technologies: Media and Communication in a Cultural Context, takes place from July 6-8, at Mona Visitors' Lodge and Conference Centre, UWI, Mona.

Local and overseas presenters will share at the conference on topics including the Convergence of Politics, Culture and Media; Converged Media and Caribbean History; New Media Technologies and Visual Storytelling.

The conference begins Monday, July 6 with presentations by acting director of CARIMAC, Dr Canute James; Professor James McJunkins, Assistant Professor, mass media arts at Clark Atlanta University and director of the CAU Jamaica Study Abroad Programme, and Lecturer in the Department of Government at the UWI, Mona, Dr Clinton Hutton.

Other presenters over the three-day conference will include Dr Hopeton Dunn, director, telecommunications policy and management studies based at the Mona School of Business, UWI; Media personality, Fae Ellington, who will address the Conference Plenary Roundtable session on Convergence and the Survival of Mass Media in the 21st Century, and Dr Alice Stephens, associate professor, mass media arts, at Clark Atlanta University, who is also co-coordinator of the Conference along with Professor McJunkins and Lilieth Nelson, Head of UWI's International Pro-grammes Unit. Two students of CARIMAC and two mass media arts students from CAU will be panelists in one session.
