Title: Cut Stones, Columns and Shingles

Produced by: The Georgian Society of Jamaica

So we're sure you haven't all had a chance to really admire the beauty of Jamaica's collection of Georgian-style buildings.

If you did, then you would have travelled across the nation's three counties, spent a fortune on gas and no doubt got into few shouting matches with road hogs from several parishes. If only you had just gone out and got yourself a copy of the Georgian Society of Jamaica's DVD called Cut Stones, Columns and Shingles, you could have saved yourself a great deal of hassle. You see, lucky for us, the society has done all the hard work for us in this roughly 70-minute, easy-to-swallow production.

Here's the breakdown of sections:

1. Overview of the island's collection of Georgian-style buildings.

2. Details of Georgian-style buildings in the county of Cornwall.

3. Details of Georgian-style buildings in Middlesex.

4. Details of Georgian-style buildings in Surrey.

The DVD is narrated by Adrian Atkinson and will give you a better understanding of some of the well-known, beautiful buildings in Jamaica and others that are well off the beaten path, including a dwelling house in Middlesex with its very own resident ghost, Lady Lavinia.

The pictures are delightful and leap from the television screen, igniting the imagination. You immediately start to think of what life was like back when these buildings were being created and how well-made they were to have withstood the rigours of time so well.

It's easy to think that this DVD is just for history or architecture buffs, but that really isn't the case. Cut Stones, Columns and Shingles will give everyone who watches it a better understanding of where Jamaica is coming from, and is likely to heighten your appreciation of the beauty of the country. Now, that's a bargain, if ever there was one.
