Top-of-the-table Zone A leaders, defending champions Barbican, and Zone B leaders Harbour View United will be looking to stay on top as they oppose Maverley/Hughenden and Santos, respectively, in the Sherwin Williams Women's League today.

Barbican lead Zone A with seven points, ahead of Portmore Strikers and Maverley/Hughenden on six, while Harbour View are joint leaders with Waterhouse in Zone B on nine points.

Vin Blaine, coach of Harbour View, said his team is prepared but they will guard against complacency. He stated that based on Santos' last result against Barbican, they will approach the game with caution.

Mentally prepared

"The girls are mentally prepared. We are approaching the game seriously. If we don't, we will get ourselves into trouble," Blaine said. "The last game they played, they missed a lot of chances but they will have to make amends in this game," he said.

Charles Edwards, coach of Barbican, said his girls are in good shape and are mentally ready to meet the challenge from Maverley.

"We are coming off a game where it was expected of us to win against Santos. Santos put in a very good performance and they held us to a 2-2 draw," Edwards said. "It's our time now to mentally get back into it and try and get maximum three points," he said.

Maverley, he said, will get a good challenge from his team. He stated that even if Maverley came with a weak team, they were seasoned campaigners and it was possible they could spring a surprise on them.

In last Sunday's round of matches Santos and Barbican played to a 2-2 draw and Harbour View defeated Arnett Gardens 3-1.

"My philosophy is that the ball is round and there is no such thing as a weak opponent because the minute you start to think 'weak opponent', it's when you get an upset," Edwards said. "We have to take them like any other team. So we are coming with a serious mentality to go at them full blast," he said.

In today's other games, Arnett Gardens will travel to Elliston Wakeland Centre to meet the Trelawny Women's team. Portmore Strikers will play Constant Spring at Racing Oval and Meadhaven will oppose Olympic Gardens at Michigan Avenue. The game between Waterhouse and Reno has been postponed.

All matches are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
