Cambio reputation at stake
The Editor, Sir:

In the Tuesday, Gleaner June 23, Tuesday Talk under item two, mentioned that a popular forex dealer is selling US dollars at J$100 to US$1. As the executive cambio member representing St Ann, I am aware that dealers in the parish are maintaining the US dollar rate at $89.10 to $89.30 so as to support stability to the country's foreign exchange rate.

This voluntary effort sacrifices greater returns to cambio dealers, but is in the national interest. It is, therefore, discouraging to note that rumours are being spread in your news media which can only prompt exchange speculation, and damage the reputation of cambios in St Ann.

I am, etc.,

Ramesh K. Sujanani
