Outrageous
The Editor, Sir:

It is with disbelief that I read about the importation of patties from New York. Has anyone in Jamaica not read about the campaign to buy 'Made in the USA'?

I import patties every chance I get from Jamaica, and I live in the USA. The patties here are not the same, and they are more expensive.

Jamaica, as a country, should not be wasting US dollars on importing patties. How about we import medicine, more technology and seeds to plant?

Empty shelves

The importers of patties must not be aware of the Government of Jamaica's plan to talk with the IMF. I lived in Jamaica between 1982 and 1997, and remember the days of empty shelves, before the JLP/IMF deregulated imports as well as the devaluation of the Jamaican dollar and shortage of the US dollar that followed that decision.

Jamaica is not a rich country. We do not produce anything remotely valuable to be wasting foreign exchange earned on patties.

I am, etc.,

Denise Harrison
