WESTERN BUREAU:

A five-year-old boy died yesterday after reportedly being left unattended in his parents' locked car in Lucea, Hanover.

The dead boy has been identified as Lennon Lloyd Edwards, a student of the Lucea Infant School.

Lennon is the son of Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) councillor for the Lucea division, Easton Edwards, and his wife, Michelle.

The Gleaner understands that Lennon and his parents had gone to a morning graduation exercise, being held at a primary school at the Lucea United Church, where his older brother was among the school leavers.

Constable Rohan Reid, Constabulary Communication Network officer for Hanover, said Lennon was found motionless, sometime after 2 o'clock, by his father.

"The child was left sleeping in the car," said Reid.

"When the father went back to the car a while after, he saw the child lying motionless on the back seat. The child was taken to the Noel Holmes Hospital where he was pronounced dead."

One onlooker told The Gleaner that the elder Edwards had gone to move his car, which was reportedly blocking the path of another vehicle when he found Lennon 'unconscious'.

At press time, investigators were said to be treating the incident, as a case of 'sudden death'. In such matters, statements and a post-mortem are placed on file and forwarded to a clerk of the court for a ruling.
