No acceptable solution

WASHINGTON (AP):

The White House says it sees no acceptable solution to the ouster of the president of Honduras other than returning him to power.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said yesterday that State Department officials have been in touch with ousted President Manuel Zelaya, and the White House is continuing to work on the situation.

Gibbs says that if Zelaya does come to Washington, he will most likely meet with officials at the State Department.

The White House spokesman says there are no plans to recall the United States ambassador to Honduras because having a representative there is important.

Jetliner crashes into the Indian Ocean

MORONI (AP):

A Yemeni jetliner carrying 153 people crashed into the Indian Ocean as it came in for a landing during howling winds on the island nation of Comoros. There were conflicting reports about whether a child survived.

The crash came two years after aviation officials reported faults with the plane, an Airbus 310 flying the last leg of a journey from Paris and Marseille to Comoros, with a stop in Yemen to change planes. Most of the passengers were from Comoros, a former French colony. Sixty-six on board were French nationals.

Comoran and Yemeni officials said Tuesday that either a 14-year-old girl or a five-year-old boy had survived. However, neither report could be immediately verified, nor could earlier reports that three bodies and some plane wreckage had been recovered.

US gets tough on Hong Kong Electronics

WASHINGTON (AP):

The United States has imposed financial sanctions on a company accused of involvement in North Korea's missile proliferation network.

The Treasury Department says it moved against Hong Kong Electronics, an Iranian-based company. The action means that any bank accounts or other financial assets found in the United States belonging to the company must be frozen. Americans also are forbidden from doing business with the firm.
