An appeal filed by the MVP Track Club on behalf of hurdler Markino Buckley, who finished fourth in the 400m hurdles final on Saturday night has been thrown out.
According to the appeal, Buckley, a finalist in the event at the Beijing Olympics last summer and who was running in lane 8, was impeded by a low-hanging television camera in his lane which forced him to duck shortly after the race began. However, the panel of judges ruled that there was not enough evidence to suggest that the athlete was impeded.
Buckley finished fourth in the 400-metre hurdles finals clocking 49.23 seconds, one-hundredth of a second behind Josef Robertson who finished third 49.22 seconds. The race was won by Isa Phillips in a world-leading 48.05 seconds. Danny McFarlane was second in 48.54 seconds. Only the first three finishers are guaranteed a place on the team to the 12th IAAF World Athletics Championships in Berlin this coming August.
Personal best
Buckley, who has a personal best of 48.50 seconds set in the semi-finals of the event in Beijing last summer before going on to finishing sixth in the Olympic finals, is seen as one of the rising young stars in the event. Like Phillips, he is among the next generation of hurdlers set to carry on the legacy of hurdling from national record holder Winthrop Graham and Danny McFarlane, who is pretty close to retirement.
