BRIEFS - Thieves strike Sabina
Thieves have raided and looted the VIP boxes at the Northern Stand of Sabina Park, including the prime minister's, snatching at least five high-priced plasma television sets.

The incident has reportedly forced a searchlight to be turned on security arrangements in place at the island's premier cricket venue as difficulties have been encountered in determining at exactly what time the thieves made off with the TV sets.

The boxes were, however, occupied during yesterday's cricket match between the West Indies and India.

National Security Minister Dwight Nelson told The Gleaner that he heard about the incident but was still awaiting details.

The Gleaner was referred to Sports Minister Olivia Grange, but was later told she was not available.

However, a source said thieves have been breaking into the boxes over the past few weeks, by making use of the periods during which the park is not in use.

Pig farmer laid to rest

Prime Minister Bruce Golding says support for late pig farmer Greg Gordon will continue beyond his burial, and that his farm will be getting help to continue its operation.

"We need to let you know that the pig farm will be getting all the support to keep it going as we promised,'' Golding said yesterday as he participated in Gordon's funeral at the Christian Gardens Worldwide Church of God in Portmore, St Catherine.

There were numerous tributes to Gordon, who was remembered as industrious, hard-working and ambitious.

Throughout the service, Gordon's visibly shaken widow, Nadine, with five-month-old daughter Saleema Gordon in hand, fought back the tears.

Mourners in attendance told The Gleaner that the late farmer was sadly missed. He was later interred at Dovecot Memorial Gardens in the parish.
