Hair for summer
Keisha Shakespeare-Blackmore, Staff Reporter

Summer is the season when persons just want to let their hair down and enjoy beautiful sunshine. But, at times, it gets too humid and thats not good for your hair. As a result, most women opt to get a shorter haircut.

It is important to note that the summer heat and humidity can be very unkind to your hair. The humid weather can cause hair to frizz, break, or dry out you hair. Therefore, you need to pay special attention to your hair during these months.

Below are a few tips to keep your hair healthy and looking great throughout the summer.

1. Trim the damaged sections of your hair, especially if you tend to have frizzy hair.

2. If you do not want to cut your hair, remember to wear a hat, cap or scarf, to protect your hair against the damaging effects of the sun, but loose enough to allow scalp circulation.

3. Keep your hair knotted or wear buns or plaits to avoid total exposure to the sun and thus control frizzing.

4. Try using sun hair repair products, after your hair is exposed to the harmful effects of the sun for extended periods.

5. Avoid using additional heat on your hair. Reduce the use of hair dyers, hot iron and hair curlers.

6. Avoid using hot water to wash your hair as the heat can cause some damage. Use cool water instead.

7. Avoid using alcohol-based products on your hair during summer, as it tends to dry out your hair. It is advisable to use natural products instead.

8. Shampooing your hair every day deprives the hair of its natural moisture. So, try not to shampoo your hair daily.

9. Try using moisturising shampoo during summer, as its gentler on your hair.

10. Deep condition your hair after each shampoo wash.

11. Products with replenishing actions work better in summer.

12. Drink lots of water as this hydrates your system and provides natural health to your hair.
