I welcome Hosang's 'foreign' patties
I was privileged to meet Vincent Hosang and members of his family sometime ago when I returned home for a visit to the United States.
I listened to his story of his extraordinary journey as a Jamaican entrepreneur and how he started with one small oven to bake his patties in the United States. This small 'oven' developed into a major corporation with his family playing key roles. This is a Jamaican whose heart resides in Jamaica, although he lives in the United States. Hosang embraced the work I was doing in Spanish Town as crime and violence rocked our town, and contributed in many ways to our survival. His wife is from Spanish Town and he from another part of the country. He also made a good contribution of cricket gear which was donated by us to the Spanish Town High School and to Sligoville cricket players.
When he speaks of Jamaica, he glows. I welcome Hosang's patties to Jamaica. They are nutritious and tasty. His many contributions to Jamaica speak of his generosity. But more than that, the Hosangs are a magnificent family who know they 'can'.

Callous indignation
Regarding the untimely death of Michael Jackson, please allow me to respond to M. Campbell's letter in the Saturday, June 27, edition of The Gleaner.
What exactly did you find 'audacious' and 'appalling' in the use of the phrase "gone to soon" in the context of Jackson's death? Your righteous indignation would be hilarious if it weren't so callous.
Yes, we all know that tomorrow is promised to no one, so it was unecessary for you to write, "In the case of Michael Jackson it was death on June 25."
As sanctimonious as you sound, one has to assume that you have no children, no siblings, no husband/wife, no close relatives and definitely no friends. If you did, and any of them died while relatively young, would you think it 'audacious' and 'appalling' for anyone to say he/she had 'gone too soon'?
Wouldn't you like someone to say that about you when you die?
