Issue: Be wise, not sentimental
THE EDITOR, Sir:

I REFER to a letter in Friday's Gleaner titled, 'Win-win patty trade'. I am not concerned about the win-win effect it displays right now. I am concerned about the fact that precedent is vitally important in the global market as it stands right now.

If it is agreed to allow one such case to go unnoticed, we shall have to maintain the 'tempo' when other cases appear.

We all know how our people are, both here and abroad. Let's not get too sentimental over the fact that the imported patties may be from a company owned by Jamaicans living in the United States. Good patties are made in Jamaica. They are also packaged by request; therefore, storage is no problem! Jamaica needs every cent that can stay in the country to help offset the devastating situation that exists.

They are imported J'can patties

The Editor, Sir:

If the patties in question are the Caribbean Food Delights (CFD) brand, Jamaicans should not be ashamed. It is the only patty produced in the United States (US) that compares very well with the local Tastee variety.

This is a good-quality product made by a quality Jamaican company in the US and should be embraced by fellow Jamaicans living in Jamaica. Hopefully, the CFD can set up operations in Jamaica that will directly employ some of the many Jamaican people who are out of work.

This might relieve some of the frustrations that some people are having.
