The Editor, Sir:
I was appalled and dumbfounded after seeing on CVM TV that patties are being imported into Jamaica. As president of the Manufacturers' Association of Jamaica, Richard Azan, rightly puts it, Jamaica is the inventor of patties, so there is no need for us to import patties.
In fact, Azan was right in all his utterings. I must agree with him that Jamaica, which is now facing several crises relating to the economy, should not be importing food that we produce here in abundant quantities.
Inferior
I urge the relevant authorities to immediately take up this matter with those responsible for flying into the face of our patty producers by importing, instead of tapping into our own production of the beloved Jamaican delicacy.
Might I say, I have been both to the United States and the United Kingdom and tried to eat patties manufactured in those countries but had to stop after a few bites as they were simply inferior to the true Jamaican patties.
I am, etc.,
