Crucial clashes loom in Lucozade basketball

Hopewell Vipers and Granville Wolfpack are on even terms with their opponents in the best-of-three semi-finals in the 2009 Lucozade Sport men's basketball championship.

On Sunday night when they registered good game two wins against Central Flames and Railway Lane Tigers, respectively, at the Montego Bay Cricket Club Courts.

Vipers, which suffered a 75-57 game one loss to Central Flames, turned in a much-improved performance on Sunday, whipping their opponents 52-47. Wolfpack, who were beaten 87-47 by Tigers, showed a complete turnaround in a 61-57 win.

The crucial game threes will be played on Saturday with best of five finals set to start the following day. In Saturday's double-header, which will again be played at the Montego Bay Cricket Club Courts, Wolfpack and Flames will square off at 5 p.m. while Flames and Vipers will meet at 7 p.m.

"Being do-or-die games, I am expecting both teams to report in top form and there should be no shortage of excitement for the fans," said Deon Williams, the competition's coordinator.

In their Game Two match against the fancied Flames on Sunday night, the resolute Vipers reported in a no-nonsense mood and played possibly their best basketball of the season.

Game high

Dwight Reid, with a game-high 23 points, and Kirk Blake, who contributed 11, were the outstanding players for Vipers while Sheldon Myrie, with 18 points, and Craig Dorman, who had 14 points and nine rebounds, were the top performers for Flames.

In their Game Two win against Tigers, Wolfpack dominated throughout.

Andre Uter had a brilliant game, scoring 29 points and pulling down nine rebounds for Wolfpack. Lawrence Doman got 13 points and eight rebounds and Phillip Morrison, 10 points. Tammy Davis, with 14 points, and Anthony Christie, with 13 points, were the top players for Tigers.
