Harbour View lift Champions League title
Keisha Hill, Staff Reporter

Harbour View United won the Claro KSAFA Under-20 Champions League, following a 2-0 victory over Meadhaven United yesterday at the University of the West Indies Bowl.

However, this achievement was not an easy feat as Meadhaven United were competitive throughout the 90 minutes, but failed to capitalise on their many opportunities to score.

In the 31st minute, Meadhaven got a good chance to lead after a one-two combination between Kenneil Hyde and Kamal Malcolm, who took the chance.

Good build-up

They went even closer in the 43rd minute when a good build-up from the right resulted in a cross to the back post which was met by Hyde. But his header hit the crossbar.

Harbour View took the lead in the second half with a pass from Romario Campbell to Shamar Shelton in the 50th minute. Shelton hit the ball hard inside the right upright for the 1-0 lead.

The game stopped for 12 minutes in the half as Kavelle Dawes, the goalkeeper for Meadhaven, was injured with a cut above his right eye.

Lead doubled

Campbell doubled the lead for the Stars of the East in the 86th minute with a pass from Sayeed Robinson.

Ludlow Bernard, coach of Harbour View United, said, "They certainly got a lot of chances in the first half but they didn't capitalise."

He said he expected the team to make the finals as they were rich in top-quality players.

"We didn't have a problem rotating players as the season went on and recharging some players when they were down and maintaining the same quality right throughout the competition," he said.
