Victory enhances Rae Town's push for title
RAE TOWN strengthened their chances for promotion to the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) top-tier league competition, with a 1-0 win over Cooreville Gardens in their Claro KSAFA Major League match on Saturday.

Ian Barnes was the match-winner, scoring in the 40th minute to seal a win that lifted the yellow and green-clad Rae Town to 41 points, with a slim lead over Barbican.

Barbican, only two points adrift the leaders, stayed second with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory overPort Royal.

Following a scoreless first half, Garcia Gayle gave Port Royal the lead four minutes after the interval.

However, Barbican responded with goals from Ovan Oakley (74th) and Troy Clue (90th) to notch their 12th victory in 19 matches this season.

Only Rae Town, with 13, have won more matches. The downtown Kingston team has also played one less game.

Central Kingston and Molynes United also scored victories at the weekend.

Ricardo Taylor (8th) and veteran striker Kenneth Ellis (90th) scored in Central Kingston's 2-0 win against Rockfort. Victory broke a points deadlock between the teams, allowing Central Kingston to assert themselves at fourth with 32, three ahead of their rivals.

Molynes United, in the meanwhile, created some breathing space in the cellar with a win confirmedby Omar Reynolds' 22nd minute goal. They nowlie 10th on 17 points, six clear of second from

Bottom Seaview Gardens.

Jason Moore (47th, 88th) scored a double for Brown's Town, including a late goal that made their 2-2 draw with Swallowfield appear like a win. However, the points dropped by the third-place team were costly at this crucial stage of the competition, as they now trail the leaders by six. Swallowfield stayed sixth on 20, one more than Cooreville.

In the third-tier Claro Syd Bartlett League, from which the top clubs are promoted to the Major League, the University of the West Indies (UWI) and Allman/Woodford both capitalised on Greenwich Town's inactivity, by maximising points to move closer to the leaders.

Uwi inch closer to top

Second-place UWI, with goals from Jeffrey Brown (2nd) and Dwayne Lawrence (66th), beat Maxfield Park 2-1 to advance to 27 points, four less than Greenwich. Nyron Lee (32nd) scored for Maxfield, which have 15 points.

Allman/Woodford joined Stony Hill and Shortwood United on 26 points at third, by beating second from bottom New Kingston (eight points) 2-0. Paul Mighty (27th) and Nicholas Brown (87th) netted the goals.

Pembroke Hall, at seventh, improved their tally to 17 points with a 2-1 win over ninth-place Island Special Constabulary Force.

The Whitfield Town-Stony Hill fixture was not played because there was no security.
