Secure kids in cars
The Editor, Sir:

Every day, I see our wanton disregard for our children's lives. There are many ways we in Jamaica, completely disregard the safety of our children, but one of my biggest peeves is with those persons who drive every day safely buckled up in their seats while their children are allowed free reign along the back seat or even worse, between the two front seats.

Shame on all of you who allow your children to travel in your cars without being safely secured in a car seat or booster seat for the young ones or by a seat belt for the older ones! A child has once again died over the last weekend reportedly because he or she was not properly secured in the seat. How many more have to die?

Start cracking down

I know there are laws concerning this, so I am begging the police to start cracking down on all persons who travel with their children unsecured in a vehicle - perhaps if they are fined they will think twice. Hit them where it hurts most - their pockets - because it can't be their hearts, or they would already be making sure their children travel safely.

I am, etc.,

PRUDENCE GENTLES
