Sectoral Debate today
After taking a short break from sittings of the House of Representatives to campaign and flex political muscle in the North East St Catherine by-election, parliamentarians are today scheduled to begin the Sectoral Debate in Gordon House.

Labour and Social Security Minister Pearnel Charles will open the debate, followed by a presentation from Member of Parliament (MP) for East Kingston and Port Royal Phillip Paulwell. MP for Western Hanover Ian Hayles will also contribute to the debate.

Charles is expected to comment on the proposed increase in National Insurance Scheme payments.

Concerns have been raised by the administration that more funds are being paid out to pension beneficiaries than the amount now being collected from workers contributing to the scheme.

Update on idt legislation

Charles will also provide an update on new legislation to widen the remit of the Industrial Disputes Tribunal.

Paulwell, the opposition spokesman on telecommunications, last week hinted he would be making a number of recommendations on how the Government could use funds from the more than $4 billion in the Universal Access Fund for additional projects to benefit schools.

Earlier this year, Prime Minister Bruce Golding said the 60 schools remaining to be equipped with information and communications technology facilities would be online by August.
