Some of the top players in the racing industry are set to meet next Tuesday.
The one-day retreat will involve the Jamaica Racing Commission, Caymanas Track Limited, the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission and Senator Don Wehby, Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service.
In making reference to the meeting in his address to the Pre-Derby Hall of Fame dinner last Thursday at the Hilton Hotel, Chris Armond, a director of CTL and head of racing's advisory council, said: "This will be the most important and significant meeting between three government bodies, all involved in the Sport of Kings.
"We hope a clear path will be established for the development of racing."
Increase revenues
Armond added that there has been a lot of work by the new board since March 16, but there is much more to be done to find ways to increase the revenues of the promoting company.
At an earlier one-and-one meeting, Armond disclosed that CTL has secured sponsorship for the CTL Claiming Series, the Gold Cup and the Red Stripe Superstakes in November.
According to Armond, the plan is have back-to-back race meets on the Friday and Saturday of the Superstakes weekend, culminating with the annual thoroughbred yearling sale on the Sunday. There are also plans to mark the 50th anniversary of Caymanas Park later this year in a significant way.
