Maitland

The town of Little London woke up to the gruesome slaying of 29-year-old Donovan Maitland, a cabinetmaker, who was gunned down as he departed his home for Kingston. Another man was injured in the incident while two women at the scene were unhurt.

Reports are that Maitland was contracted to transport a family of three to Kingston to transact business and, as they were about to depart, they came under heavy gunfire from two men in masks. Maitland and another man were shot several times.

Maitland reportedly died on the spot while the injured man was rushed to hospital where he was admitted in serious but stable condition. While the two women were unhurt, they were robbed of $6,000.

The gunmen escaped in nearby bushes.

The Little London police are investigating but, in the meantime, the family, friends and neighbours of the victims of the brutal attack are unable to come to grips with the incident.

They recall the generosity of Maitland and his kind gestures to assist anyone in the area who needed help. Although a cabinetmaker, he was at a recently concluded tent crusade in Little London assisting with jerked chicken and other refreshments.
