NOTE-WORTHY
  • Speed traps are working

Over the last couple of publications there have been complaints about the police instituting what the complainers call speed traps. In Thursday's paper one driver said he was travelling from Montego Bay and that he was not speeding. A few lines later he unwittingly stated that he drove at 85km an hour (at most).

Whenever people start complaining that's when you know the enforcement is working. There is a simple answer for all these complainers: Obey the laws.I commend the police personnel who are trying to make Jamaica safe. Do not change anything. As a former policeman I am thrilled that none of the whiners accused the police of taking bribes. Keep up the good work.

In the letter 'Water from Trinidad: so what?', the writer mentioned the crab in the barrel syndrome.

Let's turn the meaning around; what about people who climb on the heads of others to reach where they want to go without realising that it hurts.?

I write this letter to state the plight of caregivers who are unnoticed by the Ministry of Education. Our role is a dual one as we are hired to take care of the children's health and physical well-being while also being asked to be teachers in the classroom when the teacher is not there. We are paid an average wage and there is little or no benefits available to us.

We make life more comfortable for teachers who do not want to deal with having to clean up a child's mess or have no time to attend to a sick child.

I am appealling to the minister of education to look into this matter, as caregivers are now invisible in the education system and no one at any of the regional offices, I believe, is fully equipped to answer any questions we have.
