  • Excelsior win

Excelsior were crowned winners of the two-day Institute of Sports (INSPORTS)/Basic Schools Track and Field Championships which closed with a rain-affected schedule at the National Stadium yesterday.

After several rain delays, none of the scheduled 25 finals went off, thus forcing organisers to use the results from the semi-finals and preliminary rounds to decide the winners.

In the end, Excelsior tallied 159 points to finish ahead of Elim Early Childhood Development Centre (79), Ascot (69), Citizens Advice Bureau/RJR (75) and Silverstone (45).

Excelsior also topped the boys' and girls' sections, with 67 and 92 points, respectively. Elim (62) and Ascot (49) were second and third, respectively, in the girls' section, while Covenant (53) and Citizens' Advice Bureau/RJR (45) were the respective runners-up in the boys' division.

Brittany Chung of Excelsior, who won the Class One girls' 80m in 13.52, was the champion in her class. D-Andre Crossdale, also of Excelsior, was the top Class Two girl, while Dayah Williams of Ascot took Class Three honours.

On the boys' side, Joshua Jackson, the meet's lone double winner after taking the 40m obstacle in 11.52 and 30m in 5.66, was crowned Class Three champion. Raheem McPherson of St Francis and Kyle-Anthony Grant of Excelsior were the respective Class One and Two champions.

  • KSAFA leagues resume

The Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Major and Syd Bartlett competitions resume today after a three-week break.

In the lone Major League game, fifth-place Rockfort, on 29 points, tackle bottom-place Meadforest (7) at Rockfort, starting at 3:30 p.m.

Rae Town lead the standings with 41 points ahead Barbican (37), Central Kingston (35) and Brown's Town (34). However, the points standing is subject to change pending a ruling by the KSAFA disciplinary committee.

In the Syd Barlett competition, leaders Greenwich Town (32) play away to fifth-place Allman/Woodford at Heroes Circle, fourth-place Whitfield Town (26) oppose bottom-place University of Technology (3) at St Andrew Technical High, and six-place Stony Hill (20) await Island Special Constabulary Force (17) at Golden Spring.
