LETTER OF THE DAY - Suggestions for GSAT improvement
The Editor, Sir:
I have read with interest and increasing concern the articles and related comments regarding the 2009 GSAT results. May I humbly offer a few suggestions that, hopefully, may improve performance before the usual learned educators do their analyses.
Don't throw out GSAT baby with bath water
The Editor, Sir: Education Minister Andrew Holness is again showing that he does not understand the relationship between the GSAT, traditional and non-traditional secondary schools, high-performing, mediocre and under-performing schools.
Buck stops with the head
The Editor, Sir: The policy of the minister of education to evaluate educators in the elementary school system is an important move to support the academic development of students. The education process should aim at 100 per cent student-body success in achievement - not only the best students.
Noteworthy
I want to extend my personal congratulations to Dr Archibald McDonald for the special honour bestowed upon him by the Medical Association of Jamaica (MAJ). Dr McDonald was my doctor for approximately 30 years while I lived in Jamaica and he had the best bedside manner I have ever seen...
Tighter crackdown needed
The Editor, Sir: It sounds like the same old story but it's a cause for concern. Although the Broadcasting Commission has put its foot down in implementing new regulatory standards for disc jockeys, more needs to be done by others in their respective circles to crack down on the discoloration of our moral fabric.
