Cricket - ISSA U-15 League final (rural area)

THUR, June 4 at Kaiser Sports Club:

Favourites STETHS defeated York Castle by eight wickets to retain the title and claim their third cricket crown for the season. Scores: York Castle 164 (Raghni Francis 87, Jamie Bishop 26; Simon Barnes 3-43, Brian Gayle 4-29. STETHS 165-2 (Gayle 81 not out, Yucklin Reid 59 not out).

Track & Field - JISA BIGGA Inter-Prep Championship

THUR-SAT, June 4-6 at National Stadium:

Hydel, despite trailing their rivals for two straight days, retained their title. Hydel amassed 294 points to finish ahead of day-two leaders Vaz (244.5) and Lannaman's (115). Ardenne, who led after Thursday's opening day, finished fourth on 107.5 points, while Quest and Wolmer's (107 each) rounded off the top teams.

Hydel accounted for five of the 10 class champion awards while sharing one with St Catherine Prep with their top athlete, Jordan James, in the 200m (24.43) and 400 (53.69) metres, all in Class One, completing his final year at this level on a high.

James, however, shared the overall champion boy champion award with teammate Russell Dejour and St Catherine's Allen Shaquan. Samara Spencer, also of Hydel, was the top female, taking the overall champion girl award with 27 points. Spencer, who took the Class One girls' 100m in 13.41, won all her four events.

Cricket - JCA Primary and All-Age competition launched

TUES, June 2 at George Headley Stand, Sabina Park:

Some 3,800 boys and girls between ages 10-16 from 224 schools across the island will receive formal training in competitive cricket through the collaborative efforts of the Jamaica Cricket Association, the Sports Development Foundation (SDF) and the Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS).

The announcement was made at a media briefing at Sabina Park during last week's official launch of the competition, as JNBS renewed its title sponsorship for the eighth consecutive year. This year's competition will receive combined funding of $4.4 million from the SDF and JNBS.

Golf - Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championship

THURS, June 4 at LIME Golf Academy:

The 22nd Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championship was launched and will be held from July 5-10 at the Cinnamon Hill Golf Course in Montego Bay.

The competition will tee off on Tuesday, July 7, and end on the 9th with the 54-hole championship, with competitors vying to top the leader board for the team trophy and six age-group titles (three each for boys and girls), including the James Moss-Solomon Trophy for Boys 16-17.

The teams will compete in three categories - 13 and Under - Boy and Girls, 14 -15 - Boys and Girls, and 16-17 - Boys and Girls.

Track & Field: INSPORTS Basic Schools Championships

TUES, June 2 at INSPORTS Board Room:

A record 35 entries was received for the annual 2009 Institute of Sports (INSPORTS) Kingston and St Andrew Basic Schools Championships scheduled to be held on Thursday and Friday, June 11 and 12, at the National Stadium, beginning at 9 a.m. each day.

Elim Early Childhood are last year champions. Vaz will be participating for the first time, along with Central Branch Infant, Drews Avenue Infant, Mavisville Prep, Meadowbrook Prep, Monsignor Colin Bryan Prep, Solid Base Prep and Kinder Garden, SOS Hermann Gmeiner Basic and St Elizabeth Basic.

The other participating will be Silverstone, Citizens' Advice Bureau/RJR, Harvest Temple, Ascot, Jahmona, Aintree, Alpha Infant, Amy Bailey, Bethany, Chevannes, Covenant Christian, Excelsior, Golden Spring, Hermitage, Joy Town Learning Centre, Kids Choice Early, Knollis, Lalyce Gray, Osberga White, Pentab, Reliance, St Francis and Sandy Park.
