I am at a loss to understand the controversy regarding the use of condoms. Is it strictly based on religion or is the argument that condoms are not foolproof?
Let's deal with the logic of the latter first. Do traffic signals prevent all accidents? 'No', the obvious answer, would not cause any sane individual to contend that they should not be used.
Temptations
Now the former. Do those who most loudly proclaim that abstinence should be practised, do so? For centuries it has been shown that Roman Catholic priests, despite their vows, are unable to to refrain from "the temptations of the flesh".
Isn't it time to stop contem-plating this ridiculous non-issue? Can any sane person expect that otherwise normal young people with raging hormones will practise abstinence en masse?
Practical solution
If abstinence is such a practical solution, let it start with the priests who have so far failed at its implementation. At a minimum, don't throw the first stone until you are without sin. Get real! Condoms, like anything else is not a panacea, but an extremely important and effective tool. Base decisions on science and reality, not fairy tales and superstition.
