We need more green spaces

A bench, sandwiched between the natural and the artificial, at Emancipation Park, New Kingston. - File

The Editor, Sir:

The thought had been mine ever since the land was cleared; however, I write to support my colleague, Stewart Spencer, in the lobby for a green space/park for the Cross Roads area (opposite the market).

Oh, how I dream of the value this could contribute to the environment, and what a facelift it would be for the Cross Roads area. We should all be thinking of planting more trees to save the environment and ozone layer. It could be so designed that a few parking spaces are left in clearly designated spots.

Indeed, the park could be named in honour of the owner of the land, who could be considered for tax exemption with the transfer. Corporate Jamaica should join our lobby for more green spaces, and the National Solid Waste Management Authority, which seems to be doing a good job, should kindly consent to do the maintenance.

Indeed, Cross Roads is the only central point in Kingston which does not have a designated green space.

I am, etc.,
