The Editor, Sir:
I write in support of a previous letter written to you by Stewart Spencer advocating the use of an abandoned piece of property in Cross Roads to be used as a park.
Parks and other architecturally designed open spaces play a very important role in the development of a sane and civil society. They provide tranquil spaces where the citizenry can relax and find solace from a hustling metropolis. They also provide important greenery, which can be used as a backdrop, or to simply conceal the amount of concrete that exists in the space.
subliminally calms
I would hasten to add to the content presented by Spencer, that any such park should include a water feature, which studies have shown subliminally calms the spirits of onlookers or even mere passers-by and also, sculptures or other features that would serve as reminders of where we are coming from as a people and where we are destined to go as a nation.
We need more properly utilised green/open spaces, not only in Cross Roads, but in all our major towns across the island.
I am, etc.,
