Ramsammy among winners
ETOBICOKE, Ontario (CMC)

Two-time Woodbine champion jockey Emile Ramsammy registered one of three Caribbean victories on Wednesday's midweek card, and the Trinidadian remains No.3 in the current standings.

Barbadian Patrick Husbands had a rare winless evening but retains a handsome lead in the jockeys' title race with his 50 wins.

Ramsammy is third on 27 wins, just four behind second-place Chantal Sutherland (31).

His Trinidad and Tobago-born colleague Richard Dos Ramos and Simon Husbands, Patrick's older brother, posted the other Caribbean wins on the eight-race card.

1996-97 Woodbine champion

Ramsammy, the Woodbine champion in 1996 and 1997, produced a superb come-from-behind ride to narrowly land the CAN$35,733 seventh race over five furlongs with the 4-to-1 bet Gold Ami.

The four-year-old filly was eighth leaving the backstretch and improved to enter the homestretch sixth, seven lengths behind the leader.

Ramsammy shifted Gold Ami six-wide for a winning run and snatched victory by a head in the final strides, edging Its Fun to Run (3-1) at the finish in 58.43 seconds.

The 2-1 favourite Kid Sparkle, with Pat Husbands up, was 1-3/4 lengths further back in third.

Dos Ramos won the CAN$63,200 first race over seven furlongs with Private Meeting (3-1) for his ninth win of the season.
