Thanks to a 217-1 upset by ALEXANDRA'S SPIRIT in the seventh race at Caymanas Park on Wednesday, the Pick-9 had no takers.

The carryover remains at $1 million, but the Pick-9 should still offer a payout in the region of $1.7 million. It embraces races three to 11 on the Pre-Derby Hall of Fame programme, while the Super-6 will be conducted from race six to 11.

The Super-6

We look at the Super-6 which gets under way with a restricted allowance race over 1400 metres (non-winners of two) for four-year-olds and up.

Eighth starters have been declared and indications are the winner will come from the quartet of EXPLOSIVE CAT, MORE THAN READY, BIG BARGAIN and PRINCESS PARADISE.

Both MORE THAN READY and BIG BARGAIN were second and third, respectively, to MAHARANI over 1300 metres in the Henry George Harrison Memorial Cup on May 16, and there is little to choose between them tomorrow. Both are ideally suited to the distance but with BIG BARGAIN coming back to finish a close third to MYRTLE WAY over 1820 metres on May 23, she gets my preference with Shane Ellis again in the saddle.

The seventh race for the Ren Gonzalves Memorial Cup over 2000 metres (overnight allowance) has attracted seven starters, including top contenders SPACEMAN, SKETEL and recent winner STAR OF THE SEA, who now takes orders from the young trainer Clifford Atkinson Jr following the death of her trainer, the legendary Allan 'Billy' Williams, a week ago.

STAR OF THE SEA won well in a good time over 1500 metres on May 23 and, although stepping up in class, is light enough to fight out the finish. Preference is for her old rival SPACEMAN (working well) with in-form Panamanian jockey Dick Cardenas riding for trainer Anthony 'Baba' Nunes.

Battle royal

The eighth race over 1100 metres for the Leslie McRae Memorial Trophy should resolve itself into a straight fight between COLEMAN'S ROCK under leading jockey Dane Nelson and WESTMORELAND with Cardenas aboard. COLEMAN'S ROCK was 5 1/2 lengths fourth to BIG MAN over the straight five course on May 25, and although bolting prior to the start of the fourth race on Wednesday and was a late scratch, should make amends in this weak field.

The course specialists JET SKI D'OR and DIESEL should have a battle royal for top honours in the ninth race over the straight, but both should be wary of RANKING, who was only touched off by TWENTY NINE over the course on April 22.

The veteran campaigner DIESEL steps up in class in a bid for his third consecutive victory and, even with the competition enhanced, should not be underestimated. JET SKI D'OR, having beaten better over the course in the not-too-distant past, gets the nod.

The unbeaten American 4-y-o filly RACING MACHINE (Winston Griffiths up) looks hard to oppose in her bid for a sixth consecutive victory in the Hall of Fame Stakes Trophy (10th race) over 1200 metres, even though stable companion THE GUARDIAN is light enough to be conceded a chance in the six-horse field. Both hail from the stables of champion trainer Wayne DaCosta.

THE GREYT DOCTOR, who has been knocking at the door, gets the ideal trip in the closing race, the The Track Price Plus Dig Out Handicap, and should win from FIRST LADY.
