Former Jamaica youth player Yannick Elliot and West Indies spinner Nikita Miller were in top form on the weekend, claiming eight and seven wickets, respectively, to guide the Melbourne Kangaroos to a 122-run win over Trelawny Buccaneers in their rescheduled two-day Jamaica Super Cricket League at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium.

The clash, which had earlier been postponed because of Melbourne's participation in the recent second annual WIPA Club Twenty20 Championship in Trinidad and Tobago, saw Elliot claiming 6-26 and 2-24 with his off spin, while Miller took 3-19 and 4-36 as the Buccaneers were bowled out for 61 and 173. Melbourne, batting first, posted 140 and 173.

In the Kangaroos' first innings, Jon-Ross Campbell made 39 and Damian Henry 27 against Barbadian Ryan Hinds 6-27 and in-form off-spinner Kemar Allen 3-44, while in their second innings, Donovan Pagon amassed 43 and and Damion Jacobs 40. Allen, 5-91, and pacer Oral Rankine, 3-27, took most wickets.

The victory moved Melbourne into first position of the eight-team championship with 18 points, four more than Manchester Lions, and six ahead of defending champions St Catherine Saints.

Fine form

Meanwhile, in the JCA Senior Cup, last year's leading wicket taker Dennis Bulli continued his fine form this season with a 10-wicket haul against St Catherine CA in the sixth round of the 14-team championship.

Bulli, who moved his season's tally to 26 wickets in five matches, three of which were rained out and ended in no-results, claimed 5-53 and 5-55 with his left-arm unorthodox spin, as his team, Kensington, recorded a six-wicket win - their third of the season.

Match haul

In other results, St Ann, on a 8-74 match haul from Andre Dwyer, defeated St James by an innings and 28 runs. St Thomas, behind 104 from Oneil Wright, defeated Kingston and St Andrew by eight wickets, and Portland, on a match haul of 5-31, defeated Boys' Town by an innings and 50 runs.

The G.C. Foster/JDF clash ended in a draw with the latter claiming first innings on 88 and 37 from Bereston Reid, while the game between Clarendon and Police was abandoned after the home team failed to prepare for the match.
