Ocho Rios needs a hospital
The Editor, Sir:

The fact that Ocho Rios, a major 'tourism plant' and a vital contributor to the national economy, is without a proper medical facility, has perhaps escaped the attention of some of the principal stakeholders in the industry. With the recent introduction of some of Jamaica's most popular attractions, (Mystic Mountain/Dolphin Cove, etc.) it is imperative that we attend this issue with alacrity.

The fact that the closest hospital which is in St Ann's Bay, is in a deplorable condition, and is some 15 to 20 minutes away from the town of Ocho Rios (depending on traffic it could take even longer), should be a strong wake up call to all of us who reside in this and the surrounding communities of St Mary, which are also an integral part of the Ocho Rios 'tourism plant'.

There is no doubt that there are enough resources, competent individuals and organisations ready, willing and able to help achieve this most worthy of causes that will continue to contribute to the improvement of our community and country for decades to come.

The ministries of health and tourism, along with the many private sector organisations that benefit from the Ocho Rios 'tourism plant', would be well-advised to pay careful attention to assist in developing such a world-class facility.

I am, etc.,

MICHAEL C. MOYSTON
