A park for Cross Roads
The Editor, Sir:

Whenever I drive through Cross Roads, I always promise myself to write about that open triangular piece of land at the intersection of Half-Way Tree Road and Old Hope Road, right across from the market. Well, I have finally done it.

I remember when buildings were on that piece of land and there was even a popular Chinese restaurant there. It is now a dust bowl and I see that a lot of cars are using it as a parking area but I think that a much better use of that land would be to make it into a beautiful park. Cross Roads needs some green area and that is the ideal spot. I do not know who owns the land but, surely, a deal can be worked out with the owners. It could also be a great public relations opportunity for a civic-minded corporate citizen.

Much-needed facelift

I recall when I was a student in Trinidad, many years ago, I was most surprised to find that Trinidad had so many parks. At that time, Jamaica had very few and those that existed were not inviting enough to sit in and relax.

Let's give Cross Roads a much-needed facelift. The area is not big enough to be another Emancipation Park but it could still be a beautiful oasis.

I am, etc.,
