Another ward of the state dies
What appeared to be a normal squabble between boys ended in tragedy at the SOS Children's Village in Stony Hill, St Andrew, yesterday morning.

An 11-year-old boy was stabbed to death by a fellow ward as they made their way to school.

The dead boy has been identified as Brandon Saddler.

According to the police, about 9:10 yesterday morning, the boys had a dispute on the compound of the SOS Village. A knife was then pulled and used to stab Saddler. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Being questioned by police

The 14-year-old perpetrator was still being questioned by the police up to late yesterday afternoon.

The incident sent staff at the Child Development Agency (CDA) scurrying yesterday, as they tried to bring comfort to the remaining wards and staff at the institution.

Up to late yesterday, a team of four psychologists was still at the institution providing counselling.

The CDA's public relations officer, Rashida St Juste, told The Gleaner that the agency was doing all it could to provide comfort to the relatives of the two boys also.
