Eve set to perform at CFW 2009

Eve

United States rapper-turned- fashion mogul Eve, returns to Caribbean Fashionweek (CFW) this year, but this time as performer, not stylist. Eve, who says she is thrilled to be back at CFW for the second straight year, will perform some of her rap classics on Sunday, June 14.

As Pulse ups the ante for CFW's ninth anniversary, a star-studded line-up of celebrities, movie stars, music icons and fashionistas are headed to Jamaica for the region's biggest and most influential fashion extravaganza. The stars will perform, walk the runway and grace the front row at CFW. They have promised more than a few surprises during their special-guest appearances at the event. A number of other local and international stars including Kelly Rowland, Tessanne, Tami Chynn, D'Angel and Cherine Anderson will also perform. Nia Long returns as host.

Eve, famous for a range of film roles including the Barber Shop series, continues to have a very successful music career after bursting on the scene in the 1990s with such hits as Gotta Man, What Ya'll Want and Love Is Blind. Her exploration of her singing voice, separate and apart from her hardcore rap, guaranteed her international success on such tracks as Who's That Girl, Let Me Blow Your Mind with Gwen Stefani of No Doubt and Gangsta Loving with Alicia Keys gave rise to a whole new fan base. From her fourth studio album titled Here I Am, the blonde bombshell released Tamborine, an upbeat international dance anthem. The follow-up track, Give It To You, a reggae-influenced song featuring Sean Paul, enjoyed great success. Eve now has her own celebrity line Fetish, which she presented at CFW last year.

CFW will once again feature the Caribbean's best designers, as well as an elite set of international stylists, including Gavin Douglas from London, Courtney Washington from New York, Nana Boateng from Ghana, Catalin Bothezatu from Romania and Sushma Patel from India.

Heavyweights

This year's event will see the return of some Caribbean heavyweights such as Jamaica's urban maestro, Biggy, Trinidad's grande dame of ultra-minimalist sophisticated chic, Meiling and British-Jamaican Sandra Kennedy. Other standouts include Mutamba, Barry Moncrieffe from Jamaica as well as Jennivi Jordan and Lucy Jackson, UK winners of that country's Young Designer award for excellence in fashion design.

A special treat is expected from Pulse's Lois Samuels, the famous Vogue covergirl who will show her collection, The Vessel, for the first time. Young Jamaicans Julan and Didi Beck will debut full collections this year.
