WESTERN BUREAU:
The hierarchy of the Transport Authority has agreed to take a new look at the concerns of taxi operators during its first parish consultation public meeting in Montego Bay, St James, on Tuesday.
In the meeting, held held at the Montego Bay Civic Centre, taxi drivers voiced anger at the St James police and some of the Transport Authority inspectors for being excessive in carrying out their duties on the roads.
The taxi operators also questioned whether there was a conspiracy with wrecker service providers in Montego Bay to seize vehicles and share the intake.
But the Transport Authority management team swiftly denounced this.
Committed to making
Bindley Sangster, adviser to Transport Minister Mike Henry, assured the drivers that the minister was committed to making the majority of operators operate in a legalised and organised fashion.
Regional manager of the Transport Authority's Montego Bay office, Ralston Smith, said an agreement had been reached between the police and taxi operators for using Gloucester Avenue, which should result in a more cordial relationship.
