Details of oil-ship crash to be revealed today
Farahnaz Mohammed, Gleaner Intern

While the Government has ordered an investigation into Monday's stunning incident at the Petrojam refinery's dock in Kingston where a crude-oil ship crashed, it is still uncertain how soon the dock will be reopened or the extent of the damage.

James Robertson, minister of energy and mining, is expected to shed some light on the matter at a press conference scheduled for this morning at the Marcus Garvey Drive-based company.

Yesterday, it was still unclear how the accident occurred, with most boats needing tugboats to lead them on to docks.

In a release, Petrojam confirmed that the ship, M/T Great News, was transporting crude oil to the Petrojam refinery when it hit the company's dock. Petrojam has since notified the relevant authorities.

A small oil sheen was seen and containment booms were deployed as a precautionary measure.

However, Petrojam has reported that there has been no oil spill seen or reported either at the dock or from the ship. The oil company said there were no injuries.

Petrojam has activated its contingency plan and will make every effort to ensure there is no disruption to the supply of petroleum products to the country.
