When Robert Dove left his home in Bethel Town, Westmoreland, to attend the Guinness Road Show in neighbouring Cambridge, St James, last Saturday, he was clueless he would be the luckiest of all attendees.
Dove walked away with a spanking 2009 Ninja Kawasaki bike, valued at about $500,000, all for buying a bucket of Guinness for $900. He was a bundle of excitement when his number was called onstage in Cambridge Square shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday.
A time to dance
As Dove made his way to be presented with his prize, a burst of confetti covered the stage in celebration of his fortune, as music blasted from the jukeboxes. He pranced onstage and had a good dance with the Guinness Greatness Ladies - all clad in skimpy black shorts and black and gold tops.
Last Saturday was the third in a series of road shows, which Guinness has embarked on across the island in celebration of its 250th anniversary.
"This kind of celebration has never been done before where we give away a bike at each road show," said Guinness brand manager Gareth Geddes. "We simply want to give something back to the community and to let people have a good time."
Entertainment
The entertainment component added to last Saturday's event could not go unnoticed, as the Guinness Sounds of Greatness Champion, Rebel T, with Mad Rass, and Dexter Pepper from Montego Bay entertained the large crowd throughout the night.
This Saturday, residents of Junction in St Elizabeth and its environs will get their chance at winning another Kawasaki, when the next Guinness Road Show will be held in that town's square. The final event is scheduled for Saturday, June 27, in St Thomas.
