The bridge, which will cost roughly US$1.92 million (J$171 million) will be constructed to accommodate four-lane traffic.
NWA contractors will begin preliminary work, including the relocation of Jamaica Public Service Company poles and ducts belonging to cable and telephone companies.
Stephen Shaw, manager of communication and customer services at the NWA, said the construction of the bridge will be undertaken in two phases.
Phase one is expected to be completed within three months and will see work being done on the eastern side. When that stage is completed, traffic will be allowed to use these two lanes. Phase two will then get under way. It will see the construction of the other two lanes, to the west of the current road, and should be completed by December.
In the meantime, Mr Shaw is advising motorists to expect major traffic changes along Waterloo Road, starting the third week of June. The changes will include the setting up of electronic signals and the implementation of a one-way system.
