What has happened to the law that was in place regarding the playing of loud music in public places? I have observed on many occasions and have also been victim of the playing of loud and lewd music in some of our buses. Does the Government have any regulations regarding the operation of the privately owned passenger buses that are on our roads? If they do, why are these bus operators allowed to continue this nuisance?
On too many occasions I have seen where these buses will be playing vulgar or slack lyrics and passengers who do not appreciate this genre of music are forced to listen to it until they have reached their destinations. When such a passenger speak up against the music, he/she is attacked verbally by other passengers, the driver or the conductor.
Comfortably seated
Sometimes you can choose not to take a bus that is playing lewd music, while in other instances you cannot - either because it is the last bus going your way, its the only available bus, or its getting late and you have no other alternative to reach your destination. Sometimes, it's after you have entered the bus and are comfortably seated that they begin to play the lewd music at full blast.
I am glad to know that the government-owned buses are not like this. It is a joy to be able to sit in a lewd, music free environment. However, it is not always possible to take one of these buses and, therefore, I believe the Government needs to take a more proactive approach against these private operators by being more vigilant in enforcing the law.
I am, etc.,
