Why should we invest?
The Editor, Sir,

With reference to the article 'Jamaicans overseas urged to invest in country' published on May 23, I would really like to ask one question of the Jamaican Government.

Why should Jamaicans abroad invest in their country if when they return home they cannot run for office? Most Jamaicans living abroad will have to become citizens of the country they reside in order for them to get good-paying jobs. The Government will have to amend the Constitution very soon in order to attract those investors they are seeking.

Dealing with real problems

I wish the Government would awake from its slumber and deal with pressing problems such as the Constitution and, above all, the crime problem in the country.

I would also like to inform Prime Minister Bruce Golding that he cannot fight crime with all those zinc fences intact. There is no need to change security ministers regularly. Get rid of the zinc fences and the garrison communities and make it safer for the security forces to do their work.

I am, etc.,
