Jamaica dismissed Cayman Islands in straight sets on Friday night, to cruise to the brink of qualification for the third round of NORCECA qualifiers for the men's FIVB World Championship.

Playing in the second round of Group D qualifiers, Jamaica hammered Cayman Islands 25-11, 25-20, 25-18 to win their second successive match and also capture Pool A.

Powerful Mexico also moved one step closer to qualifying for the next round when they trounced St Lucia 25-18, 25-15, 25-17 to win Pool B.

Dominating

Jamaica, who also hammered Haiti in straight sets on Wednesday night in their opening game, never faltered on this occasion either as they tore into the Cayman Islands defence with delight.

They were led by Delford Morgan who finished with 10 kills while Mark Lewis posted seven. For Cayman Islands, Olney Thompson scored 10 points.

Jamaica's coach David Jack said despite the win, there were still improvements to be made for the final game against The Bahamas which was played last night.

"Every time you win you have to feel excited," Jack said.

"We have a tough team ahead of us in tomorrow's match against Bahamas and need to do a little bit better than today."

Triumph

There was hardly any doubt surrounding the outcome of the night's other game as Mexico posted their second successive triumph, following their opening night win against The Bahamas.

Irving Bricio led the Mexican attack with 13 kills including five blocks while Tomas Aguilera hammered 13 points.

Despite losing, St Lucia came in for praise from the Mexican coach Jorge Azair.

"Our blocking has been very good and very important in our first two wins," he noted.

"I am impressed with the technical and tactical level of the teams from this region which I didn't know before."

A despondent St Lucia coach Roberto Garcia said they had failed to achieve their objectives in the tournament.

"We lost our chance to move to the next round when we lost to Bahamas on the first night," said the Cuban official.

"Our goal since the first moment was a second place in the group and we couldn't achieve it."
