Thursday night saw members of the Liguanea Masonic Lodge hosting their annual art auction, part proceeds of which will support ongoing charities such as the Maxfield Park Children's Home. The annual wine and cheese event took place at the Talk of the Town, Jamaica Pegasus hotel, and in a very short time there was standing room only for the art lovers who shelled out hefty sums on their favourites.

Bidding was brisk and auctioneer William Tavares-Finson kept the action alive with his witty and, at times, downright bawdy jokes. He began the proceedings with a near-perfect impersonation of former prime minister Edward Seaga and the result was very entertaining.

There were several doctors in the house, among them Opthalmologist Dr Leonard Miller, himself an artist, who had two works in the lot. He told Saturday Social that he will have an exhibition later this year as welll as launch a CD. Such talent!

The first piece went for $36,000 and thereafter, bids settled for prices varying from the teens to well over a hundred thousand dollars each. Not bad for a night's work. Well done, Lodge brothers.
